HOW TO PLANT

Garbanzo beans also are warm-weather crops and prefer to be planted in soil that has warmed up to at least 60-65°F (15-18°C). Planting them when the soil is too cool can result in poor germination and stunted growth. In general, it’s best to wait until the soil has warmed up in late spring or early summer before planting garbanzo beans.

Plant the seeds in full sun and well-draining soil.

Sow the seed about 2 inches deep and 4-6 inches apart in rows that are 18-24 inches apart. You can also plant garbanzo beans in hills, with 3-4 seeds per hill and hills spaced 18-24 inches apart.

No staking is required.

In about 100 days, you’ll have a beautiful harvest of delicious and nutritious garbanzo beans that you can enjoy in all kinds of recipes.

You’ll know they’re ready to harvest when the pods have dried and turned brown. Remove the pods from the plant and shell the beans. You can then store the beans in an airtight container in a cool, dry place for up to a year.

The garbanzo bean is extremely versatile as it is commonly used in soups, salads, main dishes, hummus, and one of my favorite things to make are sandwiches. It can be used as vegetables, sprouts, and microgreens,

Don’t forget to share your success with us – we’d love to see what you grow!
